What is Wellness? Wellness is not merely the absence of illness; it is a state of complete physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. It is Wholeness. After being diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis aged 2, I was wheelchair-bound and head-to-toe disabled by 18. After more than a decade of intensive self-study, learning everything I could about what makes the human body & mind work and not work, I reconditioned myself back to wellness, but only after learning that I couldn’t just heal my body, I had to also heal the emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of self too. If you want to heal one part of you, you have to heal the whole self. Based on this long and expansive journey, I created Reconditioned as a hub to integrate all modalities and learnings within the world of well-being in one place, and as a result, here is where you will find information on everything from nutrition and epigenetics, to conscious parenting, trauma, neuroplasticity, inner child healing, conscious relationships, intentional entrepreneurship, meditation, manifestation, spirituality and more. Whether you are suffering from chronic illness, raising children in a world of conflicting information, you‘re an entrepreneur wanting to step into your purpose or you simply want to feel empowered and motivated to become the best version of yourself, tune in as I work to uncover the most actionable ways to recondition ourselves back to wellness.

Daily Practices For A Healthy Happy Home – Transcript
Creating daily or cyclic rituals is a wonderful way to create long-lasting positive memories for you and your children. Think back to something you did when you were young, that was a tradition or a ritual – even if those words weren’t necessarily used.
Lauren: When I lived in Israel, my aunt and I would cook a big dinner for Friday night every Friday and when we finished, we’d sit down to a cup of coffee, with the latest music from an Israeli singer we loved playing, eating some of the cake we’d just made. It was a small and seemingly insignificant thing to do, but something we did every single week without fail that became a ritual, and it will always hold a special place in my heart.
Tilly: When I was younger, we’d go horse-riding. It always seemed to be cold, and when we came back, the lovely groom would give us warm Ribena and we’d have the chicken lettuce mayo sandwiches my mum made us. It was a lovely tradition that makes me so happy to think about.
Creating memories like this opens up a space in the heart for positive conscious energy in the present and in memory, and makes your home a place of higher vibrational energy, where your family will want to spend their time.
So please join us as we relive our favourite moments from our own childhoods and from the rituals we have created in our own family homes now.
Starting the morning with soft music playing, something that elevates your vibrational frequency and using the same music style each morning / using a gong
Making tea or hot drinks, the same thing each morning
Juicing and smoothies
Making your bed – your home reflects your mind. Too much clutter is not good for feng shui
Diffusing uplifting essential oils each morning, such as citrus oils and rosemary, then doing the same in the evening with oils for winding down such as lavender, clary sage, frankincense and chamomile
Getting the whole family involved in meditation or gratitude prayers
Having live plants in the house and putting time and effort into keeping them alive and well
Sage or palo santo smudging to cleanse
Full moon rituals
Cleaning the house
Baths with oils and salts
Taking time to home make your own lotions and potions – for example toothpaste, cleaning products and creams
Dance it out! Intuitive movement is the act of moving your body, however it feels like moving, letting your soul and spirit dance you, according to Rebecca Campbell in the book Light is the New Black. No one is watching you, just dance and encourage your children to dance too; we promise it will put a smile on your face and make you happier!
Family meal at the table every day
Cooking. Even if the kids aren’t involved, showing them that their parents put the time and effort into home cooked, real food is a great way to instil the importance of nutrition into them, as well as showing the that you put love and devotion into their food
Growing your own herbs and if you can, vegetables, is a great way to bring nature into the home and give you the feeling that you truly are nourishing your family with your own hands
Baking once a week
Having a salt lamp helps reduce EMFs so keeping one near a wifi router is a good idea
Following on from that, choosing a suitable hour for all screens to go off and for the wifi to be turned off will ensure that circadian rhythms can flow naturally and that our bodies can repair without interference while we sleep.
Encourage reading, as a family and as a solitary activity – it helps us learn and grow, no matter how old we are
Creating seasonal traditions is an amazing way to connect with the seasons and remain connected as a family. Check out wholefamilyrhythms.com for ideas. Things like creating a seasonal table of crafts that we make in line with the season, and keeping it there throughout the months of that season and adding things to it, or having Christmas, Chanukah or Diwali traditions, Spring cleaning to invite in the fresh, warming and aromatic energies of spring, and getting kids ready to do annual fun things for summer, like camping out in the garden and learning about the Native Americans with a camp fire – these are all amazingly expansive activities that will leave long lasting memories etched in your family’s hearts.

Top Tips For Motherhood Self-Care – Transcript
It’s a hard bloody slog sometimes isn’t it? It really is! Which is why self-care is so important. That term has been thrown around a lot recently, but there’s a reason for it. Without filling ourselves up, how can we be the best for our children?
What fills you up? What are the things that when you do them, they truly light you up from the inside out? Something that isn’t unachievable with motherhood duties but truly makes you feel whole - what would it be?
For Tilly it’s walking in the park with her dog, being surrounded in nature. For Lauren it’s sitting in a cosy café in London, reading or writing. For both of us it’s also making the time to meditate as we have learnt over the years that being dedicated to a daily spiritual process elevates us and enhances the day to come.
We’d like you to think of the thing that fills you up, and try to set aside some time once a week, or whatever feels achievable within your own circumstances, to make it happen.
They say that most marriages go through their rockiest stages during the years of early parenthood. Of course, there could be many reasons for this, but in couples who truly care about each other, it ends up mostly being because we don’t have time for each other, but more importantly, ourselves. If we spend time making ourselves feel good, we will be less likely to resent our partner, and feeling good physically and emotionally makes us feel sexier. We could all do with a bit of that during the early years! What makes you feel sexy, or what makes you feel better?
Leading on from this, we wanted to talk about the importance of owning our self-worth. As mothers we put everyone first, meaning we very rarely invest in ourselves. After I (Lauren) had my second baby, I felt crappy. My body didn’t feel like mine, my boobs were huge and the postpartum arthritis flare meant that I couldn’t exercise at all. So I contacted my friend Stevie B who is a stylist and body positive coach. I made a decision to invest in myself and my emotional wellbeing, something I’ve never done to that extent before.
It doesn’t just have to be a stylist; perhaps you need to revamp your health and making the choice to invest in your wellbeing by seeing the right practitioner for you could be just what you need. It could be a homeopath, naturopath, functional medicine doctor, osteopath, regular massages or even a life coach. Remember, you deserve to be happy too!
Eating on the go is always a problem when we have young kids. We’re rushing around tending to everyone else’s needs, and rarely have time to make nourishing, healthy meals for ourselves. A great way to work around this is to pre-plan your meals. I have a 5 weekly meal planner so all my evening meals are worked out already, with enough variation over the 5 weeks. That way when I do my online shop the week before, I know exactly what to order, which is also more cost-effective as I’m not buying stuff I don’t need. It’s one of the tips my clients seem to appreciate the most.
Spending just 20 minutes on, say, a Sunday evening planning your lunches for the week is a great way to ensure you are well prepared for the week. And when we eat better, we feel better. So that’s self-care!
Whenever meditation is mentioned, one of the first things people say is “I don’t have time to meditate.” One of our favourite sayings by Radhanath Swami, the leader of the Hare Krishna movement is, “meditate for 20 minutes twice a day, unless you’re busy… then meditate more.” The busier we are, the longer we need to quiet our minds and rebalance our energy centres.
Meditation has been proven by science to improve health and wellbeing. Mums who meditate each morning tend to be less stressed, suffer from less overwhelm, and are able to cope with the day ahead with more peacefulness and efficiency. It may seem like there is no way in hell you could make that work, but humour us, try it! Just wake up 15 minutes earlier than you would, and do a 10 minute meditation or gratitude practice.
Dr Joe Dispenza talks about breaking the habit of being ourselves. If we wake up every day and allow ourselves to have the same thoughts each morning, for example, I’m tired, I’m rundown, life is hard, I need more money, my kids are driving me mad… we are sending that energy out into the quantum field and manifesting it back to ourselves for the next day. By sending gratitude out into the quantum field, we are rewiring our brains to be happy and raising our vibrational frequency. what better way to start the day than being happy? we can totally do it, we just need to give it a little bit of time.
Some other things we do that feel like true self care to us are: reading, baking, going for a walk, going to the gym or to a yoga class, smudging the house with sage or palo santo while chanting – because yup, we are that crunchy! Going clothes shopping alone, meeting friends for coffee or dinner, losing ourselves in a big old bookshop, and if we’re really lucky and have the support, allowing ourselves a night away in a hotel on our own. Ladies, this is OKAY! Mum guilt is real, but self-care means putting yourself right up there with your kids on your list of priorities. As long as your kids are in good hands and you have ample support, you are allowed time to yourself. This is ok.
We’ve created some affirmations that we’d love you to use on a daily basis, and they are:
I love and accept myself
I am worthy of all the amazing things that are happening in my life
I am beautiful in all my uniqueness
I radiate and receive love and respect
I deserve everything the universe has to offer me
Self-care means something different to everyone, so do what fills YOU up. Try to set aside even 10 minutes each day, after the kids are in bed, or before they wake up in the morning if you’re lucky enough to have late sleepers, to do what elevates you.

My Child Is Unwell; What Do I Do? – Transcript
{DISLCAIMER: we are not doctors and you should contact your medical professional if you are worried about your child.}
We learnt a lot of this information from Dr Jayne Donegan, so do visit her website for comprehensive booklets on these subjects.
When our kids are ill it’s really scary. We want to take away their pain and make them better instantly, but instant isn’t always best. The immune system has brilliant and complex processes that have evolved as we have, to be able to protect us from illness.
The chemical reactions required for the clean-out process work more efficiently at a higher temperature, as do the white cells in the immune system that help to scavenge and clean out rubbish, which is why temperatures are actually super healthy, if approached in the right way and if a child’s immune system is adequately supported.
Common store-bought antipyretics can bring down fevers too quickly and suppress the toxins back into the system, instead of ensuring that the immune system processes the infection or virus in the most natural and effective way. When medicines are introduced to suppress, we often find that the virus keeps returning, but by treating common childhood illness naturally, we ensure longer lasting immunity and recovery, and you often find that your child does something new once they’re better, alerting us to the fact that in order to take a developmental leap forward, the child has to clean out their system first.
Before we leap in, it’s important to stress that this information is for common and unserious childhood illnesses. If your child has a fever that is rising rapidly, if they can’t look at the light or can’t move their neck, or an alarming rash has occurred, always take them straight to hospital. Use your instincts as a parent but always try to remain calm.
For normal circumstances of childhood illness and fever, which occur a lot in the early years, here are the steps we personally take:
- Keep them in loose cotton clothing, ensuring that they aren’t too hot, but equally that they don’t catch a chill.
- Leave a window open for ventilation, stuffy rooms are not conducive to wellbeing and the respiratory system needs air to be circulating. Room temperature should be around 15-18*. That may sound too cold, especially in the winter, but childrens’ ability to regulate their temperature is immature. If the room is too hot, the child cannot radiate their excess heat into their surroundings.
- When the body is processing a fever, it shouldn’t have to do much more work elsewhere, which is where the expression ‘feed a cold starve a fever comes from.’ If your child isn’t hungry, don’t force it. Their body is already doing enough processing without having to add the digestive system to the mix. Stick to clear fluids for example water, diluted apple juice, lemon and honey (never give honey to a child under 1), and broths, which are easy to digest and full of health benefits. With older children who might be used to having sugar, gluten or dairy, try and eliminate these foods for the body to be able to detoxify quicker. Other foods you could offer are peeled apple, wholemeal toast with honey or marmite, mashed potato and fruit or cooked vegetables.
- Use your homeopathic kit. They come with a booklet explaining what each remedy is for so choose the relevant remedy. There is also a homeopathic hotline offering free advice. Make sure to utilise this amazing, voluntary service.
- Use health elixirs such as elderberry syrup and manuka honey if your child is over a year old.
- Skin on skin is one of the most effective ways to regulate a child’s temperature. This isn’t just for new-born babies; the skin on skin approach can be used with children of any age.
- Keep a calm, stress-free environment, and keep screentime to a minimum to ensure the child’s circadian rhythms normalise.
- Let the child sleep as much as possible. Just read the 6-step guide that comes free on our website to understand why sleep is one of the 6 fundamental pillars of wellbeing.
- Increase vitamin c to help the immune system on its journey back to recovery
- Give Epsom salt or magnesium flake baths to aid the detoxification process.
Like we always say, not medicating a fever does not mean you are sitting by idly doing nothing. It means you are supporting the body’s natural processes of elimination.
For coughs and bad colds, follow all the above, and also use steam bowls or steam rooms by running hot water in the bath and closing the door and sitting the child in the room with the steam. You can add certain essential oils to the bath or steam bowl and also to room diffusers that you can leave on throughout the day and night.
Lastly, follow your instincts!

Natural family wellbeing toolkit; what are the essentials we need to stock up on at home? - Transcript
We would like to add here that we believe in an individualised approach to healthcare, meaning that it’s never a one size fits all approach. What works for one person may not work for another, and supplement choices should be dependent upon your own body’s needs.
With that said, here are the items we can’t live without and want to recommend to you:
- Homeopathic kit – some have loads of remedies, some have less, but most of them have the essentials you need to treat the most common problems you might come across, such as bumps, bruises, burns, teething, tummy aches, coughs, colds, pregnancy ailments, separation anxiety, shock, grief, muscle sprains, rebalancing, common childhood illnesses, hayfever, allergies and heaps more. Homeopathic remedies are safe, effective and can be used alongside most other treatments. You can use these for the whole family, and even your pets. Helios and Ainsworths both do amazing kits.
- Topical creams such as arnica, calendula and hypercal are ones I personally don’t leave the house without with young kids. They are used for cuts, bruises, grazes and scrapes, and encourage faster healing. Weleda and Nelson’s are great brands.
- Elderberry syrup – what an elixir. This is can be given to help boost the immune system in the colder months, and also to help when colds and flu come on. It is a super antioxidant and aids digestive health. Every home should have a bottle at hand. You can make it yourself if you happen to have elderberries growing near you – foraging can be a really fun activity with kids. Or else Pukka Herbs do a great one.
- Essential oils. I personally use essential oils every single day, for absolutely everything. I used them in my home birth and made up some ready-made roller bottles for the kids for things like teething, digestive problems, cradle cap, sleep, calming, chest problems, congestion, immune boosters and sickness, and also use them for the whole family for other things such as nausea, headaches, migraines, hayfever, anti-inflammatory, muscle aches, in Epsom salt baths, brain function and concentration, and just to make the house smell good!
- Manuka honey is the most incredible panacea for sore throats and coughs. It’s antibacterial, anti-viral, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. Good brands are expensive, but it’s worth the hefty price tag
- Epsom salts or magnesium flakes. We’re all deficient in trace minerals due to our soil being so depleted of it and it therefore not getting into our food in the way it used to, and one of the best ways to absorb it, believe it or not, is topically. Magnesium oils can also be rubbed on, and liquid minerals can be added to drinking water. Increasing magnesium has so many health benefits, which include bone health, calcium absorption, general health, lowering blood pressure, preventing migraines, reduce stress levels, improve mood, reduce inflammation, reduce the effects of ADHD and so much more.
- Vitamin C. As Dr Suzanne Humphries says, you can’t really get too much vitamin c, so it’s pretty essential to stock up. As with all supplements, we would always recommend non-synthetic, so food grade vitamin c is best. We like Pure Synergy Pure Radiance C
- Herbs and adaptogens. So underrated but each one has so many benefits and our ancient Indian ancestors knew this, that’s why Ayurveda is deeply rooted in the use of herbs and what nature gave us. Try to increase daily use of herbs, spices and adaptogens such as rosemary, cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, turmeric, sage, parsley, coriander, ashwaganda, astragalus, liquorice root, medicinal mushrooms such as chaga, lion’s mane and reishi, cayenne pepper, black pepper, echinacea and ginseng. Dr Josh Axe is a great resource for learning about each individual herb
- Distilled water, and not just because Megahome water distillers are sponsoring us! They are in fact sponsoring us because we already use their distiller because we knew the importance of clean drinking water, filtered of harmful toxins. In the same way that we recommend clean food, clean water is essential.
- Fluoride is a neurotoxin. If you’re using fluoride toothpaste this will be absorbing through your gums into your body. Using a good fluoride free toothpaste is essential. But it’s also important to note that there is so much more to oral health than toothpaste and we will get into that in a future episode. For now, it’s good to understand that it’s not just about having too much sugar or acid that causes tooth decay, not getting enough of the right minerals also impacts this. Vitamins A, D and K are essential for oral health, so a pure, high quality cod liver oil like Rosita will help, and propolis toothpastes and tinctures can help reverse tooth decay. Shine do an excellent tooth powder that we’d highly recommend, and the Bass brush is an excellent choice of toothbrush.
- Probiotics are essential for gut health. Foods and drinks like kefir, kombucha sauerkraut and kimchi are great ways to heal gut flora, and you can get also supplemental probiotics

Is Eating Organic Really That Important And How We Can Find Ways To Manage It Financially (Clean 15, Dirty Dozen) – Transcript:
Quite simply, the answer is yes, it is pretty important. But there are ways around it to make it more financially viable. First, let’s delve into why it’s important to eat organic.
Anything that isn’t genuinely organic contains harmful toxins. In our grandparents’ time, food was grown or reared naturally. Now, however, all non-organic fresh food is grown using pesticides and insecticides, animals being reared for food by non-organic farmers are injected with growth hormones, antibiotics and steroids, not to mention that the environments they’re raised in are appalling, and all processed food is made using preservatives, hydrogenated fats, transfats and other harmful, non-foods.
Our livers are getting so tired trying to detoxify us from all the toxins we consume in our modern lives, and when the toxic load gets too high and our livers can no longer take it, onset of illness can occur. This is why it’s important to keep our toxic loads to a minimum, by reducing exposure to toxicity, and though we can improve this in so many aspects of our lives, one of the best ways of doing that is through nutrition.
What’s the trick? There isn’t one. It really doesn’t have to be complex or thought about too much. JUST EAT REAL FOOD. Naturally produced, homecooked and seasonal are the best ways to go.
And the way to manage it financially? Stick to the clean 15, dirty dozen theory. There are some fresh foods that you can get away with not eating organic, if you do have to choose. These are usually foods with thicker skins, as the pesticides don’t penetrate as deeply. These are called “clean 15” and they are as follows:
- Avocados
- Sweet corn
- Pineapples
- Frozen sweet peas
- Onions
- Papayas
- Eggplants
- Asparagus
- Kiwis
- Cabbages
- Cauliflower
- Cantaloupes
- Broccoli
- Mushrooms
- Honeydew melons
On the flipside, fruit and veg with thin or no skins, will retain a higher percentage of pesticide residue, these are known as the dirty dozen, and they are as follows:
- Strawberries
- Blueberries
- Spinach
- Kale
- Nectarines
- Apples
- Grapes
- Peaches
- Cherries
- Pears
- Tomatoes
- Celery
- Potatoes
A quick note on fruits that are labelled as organic but still available out of season. The loophole is that they are grown organically, but perhaps in another country, and then sprayed with preservatives to keep them fresh for the journey, so they end up being far from organic. This is why seasonal eating is important.
Our bodies respond to what we put in and on them, we are not invincible. We need to fuel our bodies with the fuel that is conducive to wellbeing and a lighter toxic load. Just remember, if your grandparents wouldn’t have been able to get hold of it, it’s a good indicator. Eat real. Eat clean.
But hey, as my mum always says, a little bit of what you fancy does you good. Try and live by an 80/20 rule, and that way you’re not restricting yourself to an unmanageable lifestyle, because life should be enjoyed!

In episode 4 of Healthy Happy Home, we talk about a holistic approach to education with forest school leader, Dominic Miles. We are learning more and more about the importance and benefits of child-led learning, with some mainstream schools even implementing some more holistic education systems. We talk here about why the Western way of schooling is not conducive to positive learning and how, in the words of Sir Ken Robinson, schools can kill creativity. We talk about why the Scandinavian education system is the most successful in the world – and not successful based on OFSTED points, but based on the happiness and growth of the children and how much better they learn. We delve into all different types of holistic schooling methods – such as Forest School, Waldorf Steiner, Montessori, Home Schooling, Unschooling, Wild Schooling and even Road schooling – which urgently highlights how many of us are realising that the current model of education, which was created to service the needs of the industrial revolution, no longer works and is not only killing children’s creativity, but is preventing them for growing into their best selves.
Dominic, as a former school teacher himself, offers invaluable insight into our need to reform our education system and what we do to help our children. A truly illuminating and enriching episode for anyone who has children, is planning to have children, or anyone simply interested in personal growth.
